At this time, the Halifax Port Authority (“HPA”) requires:

Trade Analyst

Reporting to the the Director, Trade & Trade Analytics, The Trade Analyst uses expertise in data analysis to help the Trade Department drive trade growth at the Port of Halifax. Duties include using data to analyze historical performance and industry trends, generating statistical reports, and responding to customer data inquiries. This position requires an individual who is proficient in data analysis and communication (internal & external) to help the organization identify and seek for business opportunities.

Accountabilities

  • Uses expertise, analytical insights, and visualization to dive analysis and reports for decision making.
  • Responsible to maintain a comprehensive database of the port’s commercial activities.
  • Presents project analysis and recommendations.
  • Analyses internal and external commercial data, operational practices, process mapping, develop tools, benchmark best practice research.
  • Utilizes existing data to perform flow forecast, identify operational bottlenecks and improve intermodal fluidity.
  • Responsible for data integrity, consistency, functionality and the evolution of the BI dashboard, Fluidity Balanced Scorecard, SharePoint trade reports and Carrier stakeholder reports.
  • Maintains and updates Port Operations Centre data on the HPA website, Trade e-book and visual aids-charts, tables, trend analysis, etc.
  • Provides support and analysis to the Trade Department and its Operating, BCO, VOCC and NVOCC stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively with all HPA departments.

NOTE: These are only the basic and primary duties; related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation of the Authority.

Qualifications (Education / Experience / Skills)

  • University degree in Business, Engineering, Economics or related field with a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ related practical experience.
  • Advanced user of Excel and other MS Office applications, SQL (or DAX), and data management visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Experience in supply chain management and project management considered as an asset.
  • Data Analytics certification or any professional designation considered as an asset.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills in business contest.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills with both internal and external customers and a capability to identify opportunities to create value for the business.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and interact with management and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and resourcefully, as well as creatively research and implement new solutions is required.
  • Solid organizational, project coordination skills, multitasking and time-management.
  • Ability and knowledge to both advise on and perform responsible duties with speed and accuracy.
  • Capability and readiness to work under pressure, either imposed by deadlines for document preparation or emergency situations and must be flexible as this position is responsible for all source to contract activities for the entire department.
